We should have a litter of Small Mini American Eskimos ready early Spring 2023! Please fill out the inquiry form at the bottom of the page and submit if you are interested in an Eskie!
The video below is our little Eskie stud "Atka" at his first AKC show in 2016. For some reason this video is flipped. I showed him with my left hand but it looks like I showed him with my right hand. Weird!
About American Eskimos
American Eskimo Dogs (also known as Spitz, White Spitz, Eskies, Eskimos, are arguably the most beautiful dog in existence. They are a very old breed derived from European Spitz dogs and have been used exclusively as watch dogs, companions and circus performing dogs for many generations. Spitz type dogs are very ancient and have changed little over the past 5000 years. They are extremely athletic, exuberant, often talkative, active, intelligent and naturally healthy. They are extremely loyal and some can be suspicious of strangers. They will sound an alarm if anything is out of the ordinary. They are also generally eager to please and easy to train when trained with kindness and patience. They do, however, have analytical minds and will "decide" if a command or request suits their purpose.
Although they have thick white double coats with a beautiful silvery sheen it is relatively easy to maintain their striking good looks with regular brushing and an occasional bath. Eskimos do shed and shed heavily or "blow their coats" once or twice a year. Spayed and neutered eskies shed much less than "intact" eskies. This is something to consider if having an immaculate home is a high priority.
American Eskimos come in three sizes; toy, mini and standard. When inquiring, be sure you know what size you are looking for. We specialize in minis which range in size from 12 to 15” at the shoulder and about 15-22 pounds.
Eskimos are super smart. It is imperative that your Eskimo receives obedience training and is heavily involved in your family life if you want to avoid behavioral problems. Smart dogs get bored easily and can get into mischief. Train your puppy and exercise his mind and body and the result will be a content and well behaved adult dog.
Eskies thrive on human contact and attention from their families. Without adequate training, interaction and exercise Eskimos, like any dog, can develop behavioral problems. If you are interested in conformation showing and handling your own dog, the eskie is a good breed to choose. All of our Champions have been owner handled.
Eskimos are one of the best kept secrets in the sport world. Provided you are a trainer that does not lose patience or use heavy handed methods, your eskimo can excel at obedience, flyball and agility. There are very few dogs as fast or as agile as an american eskimo. Our own Malak, now deceased after 17 years with us, is the only American Eskimo in history to carry an AKC conformation title and a Flyball Master Title. He was proudly owner handled all the way by me and taught me more about training a complicated dog than all the books, seminars and classes ever could.
We were very active in the breed years ago and they have become quite rare. People who got their eskie from us years ago are now asking for another. For that reason we are rebuilding our eskie program on a very small scale with a trio of top quality minis. To see our past Eskimos, all lived up into their high teens but are gone now, please visit our old website which I can no longer access but DO NOT CONTACT US THROUGH THAT EMAIL AS IT DOES NOT WORK AND I CAN'T ACCESS THAT OLD PAGE TO CHANGE OUR CONTACT INFO. Contact us through this page using our contact form. Our old website is www.rainbowpups.com We have raised Eskimos for about 20 years and were very active in showing them in AKC.
